Consumer Unit Replacement

The consumer unit also known as the " Fusebox ", is affectively the control centre for your electrical installation. This is also houses devices that will protect you from electrical shock in the event of a problem or fault, equally this is why it is so important to keep it up to date and compliant with current regulations.

The consumer unit replacement we offer includes:

  • All circuits protected by an RCBO, ensuring that in the event of a fault, the only circuit you will lose is the circuit that has the fault on it keeping the remaining circuits on and working.

  • All are consumer units come with Surge protection as standard, this protects the consumer unit from damage from under voltage and over voltage spikes which can damage the equipment within the consumer unit.

  • All consumer units come with a NICEIC Electrical installation Certificate.

If you have any questions about consumer unit replacements or would like us to come and give you a quotation for your consumer unit to be replace, get in touch with us.

FAQ about a Consumer Unit Replacement

How do I know if I might need a consumer unit replacement?

Have a look at your existing consumer unit, if it doesn't have any of the points below then you may need a replacement:

  • Does it have RCD protection, is there a device that takes up two spaces and has RCD written on the front and is it on both sides of the consumer unit or just one.
  • Does your consumer unit have fuse wire protecting the circuits, rather than trip switches (MCBs).
  • Has the consumer unit got any stickers on it saying if it was tested in the last 10 years.

If you're still unsure, give us a call we will be happy to talk you through it or come out and take a look to give you the best advice.

What is an RCBO?

An RCBO stands for Residual current operated Circuit Breaker with Overcurrent, this is an RCD and a MCB combined into one device to give you both additional and overcurrent protection.

What is a Surge protection device?

This protects the consumer unit from damage from under voltage and over voltage spikes which can damage the equipment within the consumer unit.

How long will it take to complete a consumer unit replacement and will I have any power through the day?

On average a consumer unit replacement takes 1 Day to be completed, unless it is a larger unit, you will experience power disruption between working hours for the day, we will ensure the power is back on before we leave the job.

Will you show me how to use the consumer unit?

Yes, at the end of the installation the engineer will give you a demonstration on how to use the consumer unit as well as what to do in the event of a fault.
